FINAL PASSAGEHB 4721 (Brown) Supplemental School Aid appropriations for fiscal year 2008-2009.
HB 4282 (Miller) HB 4282 would prohibit granting state contracts to a vendor if within the past three years the firm, its managers and owners (with at least a 25 percent share) have been guilty of a criminal offense incident to a state contract; been held liable in a criminal or civil proceeding for embezzlement, theft, forgery, bribery, falsification or destruction of records, receiving stolen property, or violation of state or federal antitrust statutes. Also, if the firm has violated certain state environmental, worker safety, or consumer product laws, has a record of failing to perform on state contracts, and more.
HB 4940 (Slavens) HB 4940 would prohibit a health care provider from re-using a single-use medical product on a patient, subject to up to 10 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.
HB 4941 (Mayes) HB 4941 would establish sentencing guidelines for the criminal penalties proposed by House Bill 4940 on re-using a single-use medical product on a patient.
HB 4536 (McDowell) HB 4536 would eliminate a prohibition that prevents a proprietary school engaged in teaching massage therapy from charging a nominal fee for a massage delivered by a student in training.
SB 264 (Hunter) SB 264 would restrict sales of cigarettes to only those meeting the standard for self-extinguishing cigarettes established by the state of New York. Cigarette makers would have to certify and pay a $1,250 tax for each "brand family" every three years. Violations would be subject to fines up to $100,000 per month, and $25,000 per month for retailers. The bill also would increase various reporting requirements.
MOTIONS AND RESOLUTIONS
HR 106 (Nerat) A resolution to memorialize the Congress of the United States to rectify the imbalance in federal transportation funding that has consistently put Michigan near the bottom of the 50 states in the percentage of federal transportation tax dollars returned to this state each year.
