Sen. Pappageorge hosting roundtable on 20j funding

WHAT: A forum on 20j funding and “hold-harmless” school districts hosted by Pappageorge and Oakland Public Schools.

BRIEF: The forum will provide a brief history of 20j funding, including information on why it was necessary; a legislative update for Fiscal Year 2009; and a question and answer segment.
Section 20j allows hold-harmless school districts to receive the same dollar amount increase in the foundation allowance as all the other districts receive, without regard to the inflation rate.
The chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on School Aid and Education recently discussed eliminating 20j funding for several local schools, a move that would have a disastrous effect on districts that depend on these monies as a vital funding source.
