Full-Time Positions

• Senate Majority Staff - Communication Specialist
  Under the direction of the Senate Majority Leader and supervised by the Majority Staff Director of Communications, the Communications Specialist is responsible for providing member offices with a full array of communications services including (but not limited to) writing press releases, media advisories, print and electronic newsletters, opinion columns, speeches, social media posts, constituent communications and other communication as requested; attending formal meetings related to member issues with a significant communications impact; and assisting in the creation, maintenance, and execution of a comprehensive communications plan.
• Senate Majority Staff - Digital Specialist
  Under the direction of the Senate Majority Leader and supervised by the Majority Staff Director of Communications, the Digital Specialist is responsible for providing member offices with a full array of communications services including, but not limited to, writing social media posts, providing creative content for digital purposes, curating content from external sources, other communication as requested; attending formal meetings related to member issues with a significant communications impact; and assisting in the creation, maintenance, and execution of a strategic communications plan.
• Senate Majority Staff - Graphic Designer
  Under the direction of the Senate Majority Leader and supervised by the Communications Director, the Graphic Designer produces graphic content for the Majority Caucus. The Graphic Designer is responsible for the development and maintenance of a brand standards guide for consistency across all forms of communication; working with the Communications Director to create graphics on social media platforms; and managing graphic design projects for all print materials for the Majority Caucus.
• Senator Brinks - Internal Affairs Assistant
  Under the direction of the Senate Majority Leader’s Chief of Staff and reporting directly to the Director of Internal Affairs, the Internal Affairs Assistant provides administrative support to the Director of Internal Affairs, assisting with the completion and processing of forms and purchase requests, including coordinating with individual staff members within the Senate Majority Leader’s Office and the Majority Staff office, as necessary. The Internal Affairs Assistant serves as the primary scheduler for the Senate Majority Leader’s Policy Director and Budget Director, and assists, as necessary, with the scheduling and coordination of meetings and other events for other key staff members. The Internal Affairs Assistant also assists the Director of Internal Affairs with general office duties and special projects, as necessary.
• Senator Brinks - Legislative Associate
  Under the direction of the Senate Majority Leader’s Chief of Staff and reporting directly to the Deputy Chief of Staff, the Legislative Associate researches complex policy issues as directed by the Deputy Chief of Staff. The Legislative Associate serves as a liaison between Majority policy staff and the Senate Majority Leader’s Office staff, providing support and assistance on policy matters, as needed, to the Deputy Chief of Staff and the Budget Director. The Legislative Associate also supports Policy Analysts in staffing, policy writing, and Member Office initiatives and serves as the main point of contact for all incoming policy and budget review requests.
• Senator Brinks - Executive Assistant
  Under the direction of the Senate Majority Leader’s Chief of Staff and reporting directly to the Senior Director of Operations & Legislative Affairs, the Executive Assistant is responsible for providing support and communications to ensure the effective coordination of all activities and events sponsored by or attended by the Senate Majority Leader. The Executive Assistant accompanies the Senate Majority Leader when attending events and activities, providing transportation to and from events and ensuring that the Senate Majority Leader has all necessary materials and personnel for each scheduled event or activity. The Executive Assistant additionally acts as the point person for memorial tributes and assists with all major Senate events.
• Senator Camilleri - District Director
  Under the direction of the Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff, the District Director is responsible for maintaining good-standing relationships with local elected officials, community leaders, and the constituents of District 4. The District Director helps identify existing issues across Downriver and Western Wayne and directly works with the Senator, the Chief of Staff, and the Deputy Chief of Staff on creating legislative solutions. The District Director also assists with the handling of constituent services, including constituent casework, in-district events, and community outreach. Additionally, this role would be responsible for filming and curating social media content for the Senator and ensuring that the Office is maintaining a sufficient online presence.
• Senator Klinefelt - Administrative Assistant/Scheduler
  Under the direction of the Senate Member and Chief of Staff, the Administrative Assistant greets visitors, answers incoming phone calls, distributes mail, maintains office supplies, and assists with the scheduling and coordination of meetings and other events. The Administrative Assistant also drafts correspondence and assists with constituent casework and special projects, as necessary.
• Senator Runestad - Constituent Relations Aide
  Under the direction of the Senate Member and Chief of Staff, the Constituent Relations Aide manages constituent casework for the Senate Member’s office, often serving as a liaison between constituents and state departments to resolve various issues for constituents. As necessary, the Constituent Relations Aide drafts newsletters and other correspondence; provides research; attends meetings; and answers incoming phone calls from constituents.

Part-Time Positions

• Senate Business Office - Courier - AM Shift
  Under the direction of the Director of the Senate Business Office, and supervised by the General Services Manager, the Courier provides a wide range of services including delivering and receiving documents, supplies and equipment, and assisting with general office duties.
• Senate Business Office - Courier - PM Shift
  Under the direction of the Director of the Senate Business Office, and supervised by the General Services Manager, the Courier provides a wide range of services including delivering and receiving documents, supplies and equipment, and assisting with general office duties.
• Senator Polehanki - Intern (Paid)
  The individual will provide assistance to the Senator and staff ranging in the areas of legislation, communications, constituent affairs, and general office management. Some responsibilities will include preparing written correspondence, policy research, constituent casework, and administrative duties.
• Senator Santana - Scheduler
  Under the direction of Senator Santana and the Chief of Staff, the Scheduler oversees the Senator’s schedule and coordinates office attendance at District Events. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, answering incoming phone calls and addressing questions from constituents; assists with the scheduling and coordination of meetings and other events; assisting with the drafting of legislation and amendments; tracking a variety of bills throughout the legislative process; maintains office supplies; representing the Senator at district events; attending meetings on behalf of the Senator; and speaking publicly on legislative matters.

Michigan Senate Internship Program

The State of Michigan’s Fiscal Year 2025 budget includes funds to be used for the purpose of cultivating a legislative intern workforce that mirrors the diverse array of individuals that the Senate works with and serves. The Senate Business Office has established a program modeled after successful initiatives within other state and national agencies, aimed at fostering diversity and equity within our intern community and the Senate as a whole.

• Senator Hauck - Intern
  The individual will provide assistance to the Senator and staff ranging in the areas of legislation, communications, constituent affairs, and general office management.
• Senator Hertel - Intern
  The individual will provide assistance to the Senator and staff ranging in the areas of legislation, communications, constituent affairs, and general office management. Some responsibilities will include: legislative research, attending committee hearings, assisting with correspondence, and directing phone calls.
• Senator Hoitenga - Intern
  The individual will provide assistance to the Senator and staff ranging in the areas of legislation, communications, constituent affairs, and general office management.
• Senator Klinefelt - Intern
  The individual will provide assistance to the Senate Democratic staff ranging in the areas of legislation, communications, constituent affairs, and general office management. Some responsibilities will include: legislative research and preparing and producing written and visual documents.
